The Pune Classical Concert Season has kicked off with the arrival of first weekend of October. “Arpan 2015” a tribute to Pt Mallikarjun Mansur was a two day festival with five concerts
Here is my brief Report.
I myself could attend last 4 of the five concerts starting Saturday Oct 10th , 8.30pm with Harmonium solo by Arwind Thatte – Sampurna Malkauns , Khamaj Tappa , Kaushik-Ranjani gat in fast tempo followed by Bhairavi.. concluding the Saturday – day 1 of festival
Day 2 – Sunday Started off with Puriya Dhanaashree traditional bandishes by Dhananjay Hegde , accompanied ably by Pandurang Pawar on Tabla and Suyog Kundalkar on Harmonium. He concluded his presentation with a Tukaram bhajan in marathi – Avaghachi Sansaar
A short and sweet performance that paved way to Biswajit Roy Chowdhury who started off with a long alaap in Maru-Bihag and then followed up with traditional gat in teen taal accompanied by Ajinkya Joshi on Tabla.
The finale was something super special. Pt Venkatesh Kumar mesmerized the audience starting with Miya Malhar. This was one of the best live Miya Malhar that I have heard till now. I am going to cherish this Miya Malhar for a long time – the traditional bandish “Karim Naam ” and a jod bandish in drut. The Harmonium accompaniment of Suyog Kundalkar was amazing .. the over all performance with apt Tabla accompaniment by Keshav Joshi was a cherry on the cake. The thundering rains outside the auditorium that occurred in the second week of October, was something unique about this performance ( most of the audience came to know about it only after the conclusion of concert)
The next was Shankara with superb laykaari , taans that reminds us of a mix of Kirana Gharana and the Bade Gulam Ali Khan gayaki that is a characteristic of Pt Venkatesh Kumar.
Panditji presented a short “vachan” in Kannada about the Guru-Shishya relationship. The concluding Bhairavi was an icing on the cake. Pt Venkatesh Kumar is in prime form and sings with the kind of ease that brings joy to audience.
The Pune Classical Vocal concert season has kicked off in a very high note .. audience will cherish the Miya Malhar for long time. I myself am experiencing the bliss of this Pt Venkatesh Kumar concert , the rendering of Miya Malhar has mesmerized me. Some times one single concert gives the satisfaction , fulfillment and joy of enjoying a season of classical concerts. Such was the joy of this Miya Malhar concert. I am experiencing that Bliss !
This blog post was inspired just for thanking Pt Venkatesh Kumar , Suyog Kundalkar and Keshav Joshi !
